» GSH 800/2000 H9-3 PET-version, wear proof with force feeder
This all new GSH 800/2000 is not just our newest model of the high end GSH range but it also incorporates all the latest anti-wear methods and comes with a specially designed rotor and a quadruple force feeder, tailored for the PET recycling industry to achieve outputs with a single machine never seen before on the granulator market.
When we approached this project with our UK agency Summit Systems it was pretty clear from the beginning that we can’t get the throughputs requested by the customer with any existing GSH model and that even stretching the formerly widest machine the GSH 800/1600 to 2 meters width wouldn’t be enough.
Therefore the engineering team at ZERMA decided to add the ZERMA Screw Force Feeder, which is already well established in the European PET recycling industry. To distribute the feed material more evenly to a machine at 2 meter width it was also necessary to double up our common twin-screw-feeder and go for a new quadruple version.
The last measure to maximize the output was a design modification of the common H-rotor into a closed core rotor. As a result the infeed material can’t slip into the open area of the rotor and is forced into the cut. In a series of tests over the past few months this has proven to increase the machines performance by another 10-15%. To complete the whole performance package the machine has a 2 x 160 kW belt drive with 2 solid pulleys on either end weighing in at 1.2 t each to give the 3 t rotor all the torque and inertia it needs to do its job.
But all these efforts from our “Tuning Department” come at a price: WEAR
To fight the wear the engineering team at ZERMA went back to the drawing board and came up with the following measures:
Housing:
- The body of the 800/2000 comes equipped with HB 500 grade steel (e.g. Hardox 500) exchangeable upper and lower wear plates.
- All bed knife cover plates are made of HB 500 grade.
- Both bed knife holders, front and rear, have a 20 mm weld on HB500 protection
- The area below the 3rd bed knife is protected with hard facing
Rotor:
- The H-rotor’s all-through knife support bars also have weld on HB500 plates in the wear-zones but in this case they come at 30mm thickness
- 3 scrapers on each end of the rotor make sure that any material which makes it in there doesn’t stay there for too long and this way friction between rotor and housing is reduced. Off course they are made of HB 500 too.
- The welding wire used to connect the wear plates to the support bars is imported from Germany and usually used in the manufacturing of armored vehicles.
Screen:
- Made from special HB 450 grade steel with two main features: Good forming and welding abilities due to the relatively low hardness and an extra tough corner around each hole because this special steel has the characteristics of hardening up to HB 550 in the heat effected area (HEA).
Feeding and discharge screws:
- Hard facing of the entire outer diameter of each screw with HB 600 high impact resistant hard facing material
- Hard facing with the same material of the complete final twist of the last screw flight where the most wear happens in consequence of the pushing action of the screw and the flybacks from the granulator
Blower:
- Flights made from HB 500 grade steel
- Outer liner of the housing made of HB 500 grade steel.
